Griot Theater Company invites you to step inside the creative process for M3: Malcolm, Martin, and the Movement—an electrifying theatrical exploration of legacy, leadership, and liberation rooted in the powerful words of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
This is a living, breathing workshop space where you can witness artistry in motion as students and professional artists develop scenes, monologues, poetry, music, and movement. Your presence is welcome for a scene, a song, or the full experience!

- What to Expect: Open Rehearsal + Live Filming
- Who is Invited: Community members, educators, students, and supporters of powerful Black storytelling.
Schedule Highlights (1:00 PM – 5:00PM)
- 1:00–2:30 PM: Scene Rehearsals
- Witness imagined encounters and intimate human portraits in scenes from powerful plays, including The Meeting by Jeff Stetson and The Mountaintop by Katori Hall.
- 2:45–3:30 PM: Live Recordings
- Experience the recording of original spoken word poetry inspired by resistance and remembrance, followed by a moving musical tribute with the recording of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
- 3:30–4:15 PM: Intergenerational Storytelling
- See the future of Black storytelling in action during a Reader’s Theater rehearsal and recording featuring Elementary Youth from Golden Gate Village.
- 4:15–5:00 PM: Community Readings Recording Session
- Be part of a filmed session of foundational civil rights texts, including selections from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” and Malcolm X’s “The Ballot or the Bullet.”
