Exploring, Embracing, and Amplifying Brown and Black culture through the arts

Re-adapted and directed by Andre K. Jefferson, the 2025 production of “How the Grinch Stole Kwanzaa” offered a fully realized vision of a Historically Black University in We-Ville. Grinch Jr., a green-skinned college student, trades his familiar Christmas traditions for Weville University’s Kwanzaa celebration. Struggling to fit in, he faces a critical choice: embrace his new path to belonging, or follow his family legacy and steal the holiday’s spirit.

This modern, musical reinvention dived deeper into themes of race, identity, belonging, and discrimination. It featured original raps and songs developed collaboratively by Jefferson and the students, centering youth voice and creative leadership in a bold new chapter for the story.
